My Journey to Where I am Now

October 19 will mark one year that I started college. I think back and realize that basically the journey to end up going after a college degree in Journalism and Mass Communications started in 2006. Though I have always been interested in getting a degree in Journalism I never really thought of pursuing it. But in 2006 I discovered Taylor Hicks on American Idol. At the time I didn’t really consider this a big deal. I had also voted for Carrie Underwood. However, with Taylor even after he won, I still followed him and wrote about what was going on with him. I then got the chance to interview him. That was not only very exciting for me; I also realized I loved doing that type of thing. (Interviewing Musicians) I started contacting other musicians and requesting to interview them. From Bucky Covington, Chubby Checker, Trace Adkins, Kevin Bacon, Luke Bryan, Casey James, to independent and sometimes lesser known musicians such as Judd Starr.

One thing I realized is that I really thought they needed more promotion than they were getting. I always focus on the good; I don’t care to dig up dirt on them. So then I started realizing not only did I enjoy writing about them, but I very much enjoyed being able to promote them and introduce them to more people who would support them.

Last year I was trying to figure out how I could best do that and I realized that even though I had a huge passion to do this and some knowledge on how to do it. I needed an education to learn more. So I searched for colleges that offered classes that would allow me to write, and or be a publicist.

I discovered Ashford University and after speaking with them I realized Journalism and Mass Communications would give me the tools I need to become a better writer, and hopefully when it is done to ultimately become a music publicist. I have very much enjoyed this first year, and I feel like I have learned a lot already, especially the ethical side of journalism.

I cannot wait to finish my degree and get on with the next phase of my life. This whole journey started by watching a gray hair guy on television, who captured my attention, and made me realize that we can all see our dreams come true if we just reach out for them.

Taylor Hicks Concert Review Oct 13 Akron Ohio

Let me just start this out by saying I have been a huge fan of Taylors since I first saw him on Idol. Like all fans of Taylor’s I have followed his career and been excited at all new things Taylor does and been upset when sometimes some seem to attack him for no reason or try to find ways to bring him down. The ride since 2006 has been amazing and I looking forward to all the new things the future has to hold. In 2007 I went to a concert in Columbus Ohio, and I loved it Taylor was amazing and I was thrilled at the idea of making it to another show. I kept on writing about Taylor, taking any chance I had to interview him and enjoying being a fan. It seemed every time I planned to go to another show something happened.

If I didn’t end up with a sick child, or no money to get the show then someone would hit my car in Wal-Mart parking lot the night before a show again stopping me from getting to a show. But I none of that dampened my spirits as far as being a fan and following all news and videos or televisions show that included Taylor.

So when I saw Akron Ohio listed as a place Taylor would be appearing at I started making my plans to get to this show. Then I got sick. I was so worried I would not be well in time but thankfully in a couple days I was just fine. But yes my luck starting acting up again. The Friday before the concert my starter went out on my car. Oh well 160 dollar part and I’m up and running again.

Thursday May 12 we packed and Friday morning My daughter, my niece, my son, My sons girlfriend and I packed the car and we were on our way.

Now I am from a small town in southern Ohio. My husband hates to travel so we don’t travel much and the places we have traveled to were just highway driving. I knew the freeway and as my GPS kept pointing out the Motorways was not going to be so simple to drive.

When we hit freeway 270 my niece took over driving. She drives crazy anyway sp going 80 MPH was fine by her. We had a couple scary moments but we made it to Akron City Centre hotel in about 4 hrs. We circle Akron about 3 times before we actually got the correct ramp to get in. If I never hear the word Motorway from my GPS again I won’t complain. We check in and get unpacked and I started calling the fellow soul patrollers who also were in town for the show, and find out we were staying at the same place. Its within walking distance and that is why we chose it. My group likes to walk verses driving. Of course the kids with me want to go swimming so we head up to the pool. It’s not long before they are ready to head back to the room.

By the time everyone gets something to eat and gets ready for the show which is to start at 9pm it is nearly 8 pm. We take off walking to the venue. Thankfully the rain held off and we enjoy walking to the show.

We go in and as we are walking to find seats I hear someone yelling my name. I see Linda and she introduces me to Mary, Allison, Diane and I know there were more but I can’t remember them all but it was so great to meet you all.
So my group and I go to find a place to sit. Luckily we got the last table and we sit and anxiously await for Taylor to take the stage. I went to the merchandise line and bought a shirt and cosie and go the kids cosy's. My camera is set (thanks Linda for the extra batteries) and my camcorder is ready.

There was a brief opener by a guy named Andy with a band called Dolson. He came over to table afterwards and asked if we were all fans of Taylor’s? I told him I was the main fan but that the kids would be before we left. He told them I will tell you one thing Taylor Hicks is a very, very nice man. He is a really good guy and even let me use his equipment. He stood and talked to us for awhile asking the kids what kind of music they like etc.

Then Taylor’s band came out on stage and it was time for the man we had been waiting for to take the stage.

The cheers and applause was loud and my daughter said geez Mom they love him lol I said well of course.

Taylor started with Compared to What. I had heard it many times on YouTube but in person is so much better. You could tell everyone was having a great time. I loved it. Sitting in a small bar like venue with a margarita with Taylor on stage I was a very happy person. I have never been one, who liked bars of any kind, but this was a different experience and to hear Taylor I would go in any bar.

I was hoping the whole time my camcorder would get good sound and BTW it did. I am still trying to get it all converted to share. I taped it all with the help of the kids taking turns recording so I could enjoy the show without a camera in my face. They don’t like me calling them kids but since 44 and they are 16-20 they are kids, plus two of them were my kids lol.

I loved all of the songs he sang but my favorites were Compared to what, What’s Right is Right, Back to Louisiana, Maybe You Should which half way into the song I heard my sons girlfriend tell him I love this song it’s so pretty, Nineteen is another fave and my son loved it as well.

During Seven Mile Breakdown the kids go outside for my niece to smoke a cigarette. When the song ended Taylor left the stage and went out the same door they did. Before he came Back to sing the Encore My City was Gone a Pretenders cover. I loved this it was amazing. A great song to close the concert in Ohio with.

The kids came back in right as he started singing it and my daughter whispered in my ear hey Mom I think Taylor has a cute butt. My son later told me that while they were outside he was on the phone with my other son and he looked up and Taylor Hicks was standing beside him took a drink of water and ran back in the building. He said I’m talking to Mike and I look beside me and Taylor Hicks is standing there and I thought what the heck.

So the concert ends and I was so very glad we didn’t let anything stop us and we went the show. A long line forms and the kids don’t want to stand in line so they ask to just sit at table and wait till line gets smaller. When the line finally reaches our table the girls and I get in line. My son refused to get his picture taken but said he would video us meeting Taylor.

So when it comes our turn I hand Taylor a book I had made for him and he thanks me leafs thorugh it and sits it down he starts to sign my shirt and asks my name. I tell him Cindy he looks up says well hi Cindy how have you been. He asked if I liked the show and I told yes he did great. I told him I brought my kids and my daughter is standing behind me. We get ready to get picture taken and he tells my daughter do you know you have a cool Mom here? That made me feel good and she thought it was cool he said that.

Then the kids get their autographs and group Pic with Taylor. I thank him as we walk and he says thanks to me and we are own our way back to the hotel. I wanted to go to the pizza shop with the group who were going there after the show but the kids are tired so we just head back to our room.

I had a blast and before summer is over I am already planning to go to another show. Taylor is amazing entertainer, A great guy and very good to his fans. It took 5 years before I met Taylor but it the wait was well worth it and just made me admire him even more and the kids had a great time as well just like I knew they would.

Taylor Hicks on Jimmy Fallon was a great performance. It has been a long while since I have updated my blog. I have not forgotten Taylor Hicks as anyone who knows me will verify. I have just been so busy with other things online plus my family I haven;t had much time for the blog. So what did everyone think about Taylor and everyone else on Fallon performing Rebbecca Blacks "Friday" on April 1. I thought it was very fun and great performance. I loved when Taylor slid his way on stage. I did not get to see the live show of the performance as I was at the ER with my daughter but I set my DVR and have watched it on the NBC site many times. I hope to be seeing more of Taylor Hicks on TV. The only thing better than seeing Taylor on TV is seeing him in concert. I hope to make it to a show this spring or summer. Below and above you will see some screen caps I captured of the show.

Hot Damn! I got My Taylor Hicks Blog Back

It has been about 8 months since I posted to this Taylor Hicks blog. For awhile it was because I was so busy with other things I never seemed to have the time to post anymore.

A few months ago I tried to come back and start managing the blog again and for some reason I could not log in. It kept saying my password was wrong. I finally just gave up but then today I try and miraculously the password worked this time.

I am anxiously waiting for October 12th. Taylor Hicks will be on Don’t Forget the Lyrics. It will air on MyNetworkTV on October 12, 2010 at 9:30 PM but if you do not get that channel or you want to watch it again you can see it on Fox syndicated networks on November 4, 2010 then for a 3rd go around you can catch Taylor Hicks on VH1 on February 17, 2011 at 7:00 PM.

Taylor Hicks has said he has been looking at scripts for TV and Movies so hopefully we get to catch him on some more TV shows and in some movies

Boy it has been awhile since I have posted. I am trying to get back into the writing aspect of my life some. I have something I want you all involved in. This is just a hypothetical thing, for now anyway. I have an idea for something I want to do not sure yet how it will pan out, if it even does but I would love your ideas.

If you could set down with a group of musicians and ask them questions about one certain subject what would that subject be? I already got the chance to do this on the subject of the Internet. But what other subjects do you think would be of interest to you the readers and also the musicians themselves. I don’t mean just questions you would ask in an interview I am talking about a subject itself that after the subject is decided then the questions would be formed. Like people want to know about a movie an actor is in and they ask questions about the movie or they want to know how someone gets a record contract and they build their questions around that subject.

So let’s see what we can come up with and if my idea works its way into the light of the print world, you may see your idea. Or if nothing else we will know what people are interested in and that itself could be a great piece to write about.

Review of Whomp at the Warfield

I finally was able to watch Whomp at the Warfield. I was very pleased with the concert. More so than I thought I would be. It starts out with the song Gonna move. The audio and video are excellent. There are many closeups of Taylor Hicks.I heard they block out the audience to much which in some instances I wish the sound was louder at the end of the songs but I have seen many of Taylor's videos on You tube and the audience was so loud it overshadowed Taylor's voice so I am glad the audience sound was toned down so you can just hear and enjoy Taylor's voice.

Taylor showcases the talent of the band many times and that is great as all those playing with Taylor are great talents. For me the concert just got better and better as it went on. Taylor is able to get the band to do what ever he wants with just the wave of his hand.

I have only been to one concert and I was so wrapped up in watching Taylor and taking pictures I did not notice the way he controls the band so effortlessly. I also was in the front row so I only was able to see the reactions of those in beside me or directly behind me. With Whomp I was able to see the audience clapping, signing and dancing along. Many argue Taylor's fan base is OLD women. I even saw report say his fans are in the nursing homes. I know this is so not true but it was nice to watch the video and see all age groups and men and women. Maybe those who like to say different should watch Whomp and notice the audience. Better yet go to a CONCERT.

You can see Taylor and the band are having as much fun as those in the audience.

My Friend is one of my favs in the concert. Love Brian Gallagher playing the horn he sounds amazing and when Taylor brings out the harp he puts the magic into the song.

The Deal is another stand out performance for me. I have always loved that song. Then comes Hold onto your Love. This is a song I never much liked. I know I am one of the few. I didn't notice it with the concert I attended but I did notice it on WATW and I have changed my mind I now enjoy the song very much. Maybe it has to do with Taylor tagging in Ray Charles song Lonely Avenue. The way Taylor sings Now my Room has got to windows but the sunshine never shines through. The way he sings that song is amazing one of the best tags I have heard Taylor do. Simply amazing.

Like I said this concert just gets better and better. Next is Wherever I lay my Hat. I never liked this song when it came out by the original guy but when Taylor's CD Taylor Hicks came out and I heard his version, his voice, I loved it. Taylor puts a lot of feeling into it during WATW and I have been playing The Distance since it came out but I think I am going to pull Taylor Hicks back out and play it I forgot how much I loved these songs.

You also get to see Taylor doing his wacky dancing a lot. People can say he can't dance but he makes you smile when he does so he is doing something right.

By the time he gets to Heaven Knows I notice how much he is sweating. Pretty obvious how he is getting so slim. He is working off all the calories he takes in. If we all did aerobic dancing as often as Taylor does we would be slim and trim. Maybe thats the key put in Taylor's CD and dance and jump around the whole time it is playing and do this everyday.

The Maze is next this is a song that grew on me overtime and I love now. Taylor Tags in Warm Love and plays some Harp again. LOVE LOVE this harp solo.

During The Right Place Taylor's voice is so crisp and clear and watch him control the band with his hand.

The Runaround. Love this song and the beat of the drums in it. Taylor gets to dance and have fun during this number and so does the audience. Love Taylor's turning around and around in this song. He has fun with this song. Some more harp. One thing I notice with Taylor and the band they can jump right into the tags and back into the song without missing a beat. If a person was to be hearing all of these songs for the first time you would not even know its one song with parts of another song tagged in. That is true professionals at work.

You might think this getting ready to be the end of the concert but you need to stick around there is LOTS more to come.

Out comes Taylor once more. Thanks the audience and start singing one of my Favs The Fall. He sits on a stoll and just sings. This is one of the reasons I am glad the audience is toned down so I can just hear his voice singing this song. Just Taylor and a guitar.

Taylor sings a song by Eric Clapton and rocks it out but I don't know the name of the song someone help.

Naked in the Jungle is next and Taylor showcases the band. Goes into Dance to the music and Taylor plays some organ.

Now we are at the end of the concert and Taylor is jumping AED dancing around having fun and does a little dance on the speakers.

I loved Whomp at The Warfield. I am so glad I finally got to see it. I sure hope it comes out on DVD in the future so I can buy a copy. I recommend any Taylor fan and any fan of great music to watch this when ever it is aired again. If you don't get the channel than go to someones house and watch it or have them record
it so you can watch it at a later time. Whomp at the Warfield is well worth the wait.

Remembering Michael Jackson

I haven't posted much lately as with working at Walmart and summer being here I am usually at work or working in my vegetable garden or in the pool. But now I have a few minutes. Well I should be in bed as I have to work tomorrow but I keep thinking about the death of Michael Jackson and I know I will not rest until I post my thoughts.

This is a Taylor Hicks blog but I have covered other artists before and no matter what controversy surrounded Michael Jackson the past years, music saw a sad day on June 25th 2009.

There are some things that happen in life that you never forget where you were and what you were doing the day it happened. Like the day Kennedy was killed, the Day Elvis Died, the day 911 happened and now the day that Michael Jackson died.

I was sceduled to work at Walmart on Thursday from 10:30 amd to 7pm. Before I left for work I heard the news Farrah Faucett had died from her battle with cancer.

I went to work and around 3:30 a customer came in and was at the register next to me and I heard her say Michael Jackson just died. I swear it seemed as if Walmart had went awfully quiet. We asked if she was sure and she said I just heard the news. You could see we were coming to terms with the news.

I felt sadness I have been a fan of Michael Jackson for my whole life even when he was just a kid and singing with his brothers. Rockin Robin was my first song I remember loving of his well also ABC.

I remember rushing out to buy Thriller and loving going to my Grandmas to watch MTV to see his videos. My Aunt would say your Grandma doesn't like this kind of music and my Grandma said you hush this girls love this guy and he is a good looking guy they are doing fine watching this. Plus he is the Jackson's baby brother. I loved my Grandma she knew what was important to preteen Granddaughters and never deprived us of enjoying it.

Before Thriller though there was a song called Farewell My Summer Love. I was spending the Summer with my Grandma and I had a crush on the boy next day. i would call the radio everyday and ask them to play Farewell My Summer Love. They played it every day and then I would hear it again being played before I fell asleep.

About 12 years ago at a yard sale I saw a album Michael Jackson Farewell my Summer Love. Below it said Never before Available and I grabbed this album. One because it was the first Michael Jackson song I related to a boy and 2 because my Grandma supported me so much in my love of Michael Jackson. I have that album still. I have his Thriller album I bought when I was 18, I have his Bad album and I have The Best of Michael Jackson dated 1975. With Ben and Rockin Robin among others.

I know the controversy concerning Michael.I know he messed himself up over the years with surgery's that should have never been done. I believe Michael had some issues in his life.

With all that said I separated all of that from the music and I stayed a fan. Michael Jackson was one of a kind. He had talent beyond words. He put a impact of music and dance like no other before him and no other since.

God is the only one who has a right to judge someone, because he is the only one who knows the truth of everything and he is the only one to know what is in someones heart and soul.

God bless the family and friends of Michael Jackson they are the ones who are suffering the most. They are the ones who knew and loved Michael and they are the ones who will wake each day and face the day without him in their life.

HDNET Gone - No Whomp at the Warfield again. Time Warner Pain

I am so aggravated right now. It was announced on The Boogie Board that Taylor Hicks Concert Whomp at the Warfield would air again on HDNET in June. So a little over a week ago I contacted my cable company Time Warner to sign up for HDNET. The channel was turned on and no one said a word to me about the fact that I may not get the channel come June.

I then found out that June 7th at 3:30 EST Whomp at the Warfield would air. I used my guide to fast forward to that date and I set my DVR to record it as I have to work that day.

Yesterday I went to my scheduled recordings to make sure it was still set. It was not so I went to channel 770, well I tried to but it would not go to the channel. So I checked my guide and the channel did not show in my guide.

Today I contacted Time Warner and asked why it was no longer showing in my guide. I now find out this.

Time Warner Cables agreements with HDNet and HDNet Movies have officially expired. Both channels currently reside on our pay Premium HD Tier which is available across our footprint.
HDNet will only allow us to keep these channels if we move HDNet to the Digital Basic Tier. We believe HDNet is a premium product and should be sold as part of an optional premium HD tier, exactly how we have currently been carrying HDNet and HDNet Movies. After extensive negotiations, we have parted amicably with HDNet. Consequently, Time Warner Cable will drop HDNet and HDNet Movies across our footprint on or before May 31, 2009.

When I ask why I was not told when I signed up that I would not be able to get the channel I got the above answer again. Talk about a runaround. The fact is that I believe they did not tell me because they thought maybe I would just keep what ever they offer in replacement. I told them I do not want their replacements I only wanted HDNET so I could watch a Taylor Hicks concert.

I think it says a lot for company that does not bother to tell a customer “oh that product you want will not be available in a week are you sure you still want it?”, and what it says is not good.

She also said “Based on what you are telling me, it sounds as if you really enjoyed watching HDNet and/or HD Net movies and are frustrated that you can no longer access them through your Premium HD Tier.” Well duh what was her first clue? Maybe the fact that I said “Why was I not told this when I signed up for the channel?”

I know without a doubt they knew this was going to happen when I signed up but they did not give me this piece of information. If you ask me this is a horrible way to run a business and just makes me not want to sign up anything else because I never know when they will decide to just up and take it away and try and give me some stupid replacement I did not ask for.

It is so aggravating. First I did not have HDNET when the concert first aired but I thought no big deal I will just buy the DVD. Than the DVD never happened. I then find out it will air again so I sign up HDNET and the all the sudden the COMPANY decides to take the channel without a warning. I just give up I will not see the concert and I might as well give up trying.

Ok tonight was fun. I have been so busy with moving haven’t had much time to check in to Taylor Land lately. Tonight I went to the Boogie and found out Taylor Hicks new song Seven Mile Breakdown. Was going to be GAC Fight Nights radio. Taylor song was against James Otto and Taylor won!. This means a few things. First Taylor was heard on Country Radio, 2 he beat James Otto with a great song, and 3rd it will be played again tomorrow against someone us. to listen tomorrow the show airs at 9 pm central. Then when Taylor’s song plays call 1-866-943-4221 and get your vote in for Taylor. Moving, Bacon Brothers, Kevin Bacon

Things are finally starting to settle down around here. The house is nearly complete. Roof being finished tomorrow. We have already moved in but still have to finish getting stuff out of the old place. The house looks really nice. I am very proud of my husband and his brother for all the hard work they put into making this house into our home. Hubby wants to tell me how to decorate though lol He wants my autographed pics and CDS hung in hallway huh? Nope sorry they stay in main room. I sure have enough wall space for them and everything else.

April 16th I had the amazing opportunity to interview The Bacon Brothers about their music and then I was able to speak with Kevin about his early days in acting. I have always been a fan of Kevin’s. I remember when he started on Guiding Light and then when he was gone Grant Aleksander/aka Philip Spauding cam on the show and for the longest time I thought they were related because I thought they looked so much alike. The Footloose hit the big screen and I have been a Kevin Bacon fan ever since. So being able to interview him and his brother was a special opportunity to me. Boy it sure has been a hectic April around here. We are preparing to move and we have been remodeling the place we are moving into. It looks 100% different than it did the day we agreed to move into it. Last week I got an email Wednesday asking if I wanted to interview The Bacon Brothers on Thursday? This is something I knew for awhile was going to happen at some point and I was anxiously awaiting this opportunity. But we have been so busy and I am so wore out I was tempted to ask to reschedule. But then I re-thought and you just don’t turn down Kevin Bacon and ask to fit him into your schedule. So I did the interview. I first spoke with Kevin and Michael Bacon both about the Bacon Brothers and then I spoke with Kevin Bacon about the early days of his acting career.

I have submitted the interviews and hopefully really soon they will be published. When I look back to 2006 to when I got that first interview with Taylor Hicks it seems to kind of come full circle. What I mean is this. At the time I started doing interviews there could have no better choice for a person to interview first than Taylor Hicks. Well besides maybe Elvis Presley and we all know that wasn’t possible. So anyway I have had several interviews with other musicians since that first Taylor Hicks interview and even a couple more with Taylor too.

When it was announced Taylor was going to be starring in Grease as Teen Angel I loved the idea. My two favorite movies of all time are Grease and Footloose. So to be granted an interview with The Bacon Brothers and then get to speak with Kevin about his movies is just major icing on the cake.

When I go on the search of new movies I always search out the name Kevin Bacon to see if he has any new movies out. I have seen every movie that he has been in. I even watched him when I was a pre-teen when he was in the soap Guiding Light. I have always been a huge fan of Kevin Bacon. Guiding Light is supposed to end in September. I so hope they change their mind about that.

Before I even had internet I would call the video store and ask if Kevin had a new movie out. So for me having the first interview that is in regards to an actor and have it be Kevin Bacon is just exactly what I would asked for if someone would have said who is the actor you want to interview. Umm John Travolta and Will Smith would be my next choices now and Kevin Costner.

As soon as the interviews are published I will post links to them. Even if you are not a fan of The Bacon Brothers or Kevin Bacon I think you will enjoy the interviews anyway.

I haven’t been posting much because I have been very busy. First we are moving in May. The house we are moving into we are completely remodeling. It is a beautiful house but needs lots of fixing up. From replacing floors, new carpet, painting, doors and so much more.

Then last Monday my Mom who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s about 21 years ago and has been in nursing home since 1996 went into hospital. She was dehydrated and she was so constipated her stomach was swollen and distended. She got out Wednesday and is back in nursing home. Thursday my brother in law got mad at something and put his hand through a window. Guess he thought that was a smart thing to do. Cut main arteries in wrist and had to have to have surgery. He almost died, lost lots of blood and on way to hospital he lost control of his bowels. They said he came very close to dying. So last week was a rough one.

But for now things are back to normal and we are trying to get this house done. The hardwood floors are being laid today. It has beautiful and big archways in the door ways and double glass doors. I plan to stencil designs above the archways to draw attention to them. Below are a couple pics of the house before remodel.

Taylor Hicks in the Zone, to go “THE DISTANCE”

As all fans of Taylor Hicks know, his new album is titled The Distance. I have previously given my review of the album so this will not be another review. Except to say I am still loving it, a couple songs that were not my favorites have now grown on me and are enjoyed by me as much as the others that I loved from the first listen.

In my previous post I posted the song “You Send Me” that Taylor sang when he was on Idol. I went back this morning and listened again. Randy, Paula and even Simon loved the performance. Simon even called it magic. But the comment that caught my attention was made by Paula.

When I interviewed Taylor after reviewing the CD I asked him why he titled the CD “The Distance”? You can read his reply to that here. He replied that he would leave that up to the imagination. So in listening to the comments of “You Send Me” Paula said that Taylor was finally in the zone to go “The Distance”. You can hear this at around 4:32 in the clip below. This could very well be what the title of the CD represents. Taylor is now in the zone to go The Distance. I think with this album he will do just that.

Don’t bother telling me about sales reports, I know them and I think they are just fine. Sure I would love to see Taylor at the top of the charts but I would much prefer he stick around for a long distance of time and not just rocket to the top and then vanish. I believe this album will continue to sell for quite awhile. The songs will start to touch more hearts and Taylor Hicks will be around for The Distance. He is the zone to stick around and go The Distance.

Taylor Hicks Motown Week

Last week was Motown week on American Idol. While I enjoyed a few performances, I still couldn’t help but think if Taylor Hicks would have been competing last week with the Idols this season he still would have come out on top. So I went on the search to find a song Taylor covered that would have fit into Motown week. “You Send Me” is a song Taylor sang on Season Five and I love it hearing as much now as I did then. Shortly following the passing of Sam Cooke, Motown Records released We Remember Sam Cooke, a collection of Cooke covers recorded by The Supremes. This album contains many great Sam Cooke Covers and “You Send Me” is one of them.

So Taylor would be able to sing “You Send Me” during the Motown Theme week. Taylor Hicks News March 23rd

Taylor was scheduled to be on Regis and Kelly March 2nd but a storm in New York kept him from being able to get to the show. The show was pre-recorded the next day and will be aired this week Thursday March 26th. Taylor will be performing his new single “What’s Right is Right”.

Is being an “invested” fan a plus or minus? What I mean is this. We all have several musicians that we enjoy. I have a taste for music in many different styles. I have at this time 4 musicians that I really enjoy listening to. Of course anyone reading this or anyone who knows me knows that Taylor Hicks is at the very top of that list. That list also includes an Indie Artist Judd Starr and country music stars Bucky Covington and Luke Bryan.

I am interested in what 4 men accomplish in their music careers. I support all 4 men differently and I feel differently about each. But am I overly invested in any of them or even all of them?

A fellow blogger/friend published a post called Keeping it Real, which as all fans of Taylor Hicks, know is also a title of one of his songs on his new album released March 10th called “The Distance”. So in this post she gives a list of items that can let you know if you are a casual fan or a fanatic. Neither is a bad thing though, in my opinion, unless of course you have crossed the line into stalking or ignoring your loved ones, who are really what matter in life anyway.

So I decided to see how the list relates to each musician that is ranking in my tops list.

So first I will cover Judd Starr. I am a fan of his for a few reasons. One - I love his voice/music, two - he is a dedicated musician, three – he is an awesome guy who really cares about and appreciates those who support him and enjoy his music. You will not find a musician who puts more time and effort into letting his fans know how much he truly appreciates what they do for him. Judd Starr is an independent artist and he has also created music for many television shows and movies. But do I qualify as a casual fan or a fanatic? So from Chills list these are the ones I can relate to in regards to my support of Judd Starr.

1).When one of his songs plays in a restaurant or supermarket, you have to suppress the impulse to tell everyone to, “Shhhh, listen, that’s Judd Starr,” and you can’t wait to tell your “Judd” buddies about it.
That hasn’t happened but if I did hear one of Judd’s songs I might just be tempted to do that. I would be so thrilled for him to hear him played I would want to hear the song not chatter or chopping carts. LOL I would come home and tell my family and yes I would tell online buddies. I would also write Judd and tell him. I would want to give the very good news to make his day.

2.You TIVO all of the television appearances within your Dish’s reach and go online to search for the ones you couldn’t get.
If he appears anywhere on TV you can bet I will. Again I would be so thrilled for him I would not miss seeing him on TV.

3.You bought a “few” copies of his new CD.
I have one of each CD. Does that count?

4. You have a Google alert on Judd’s name and anyone even remotely associated with him.

Just Judd. Hey I run a MySpace fan site about him. If there is some good news to discover I need to know so I can post it and then congratulate Judd.

5. Do you own a blog and/or Judd-related fan site?

As stated above a MySpace fan site. I have also written some blog entries at my blogs about him and interviewed him.

So am I casual fan or fanatic?

I think I am in between. I so want to see Judd succeed in all he does and share his talents with many, many people. If he were to hit the “big” time I would be jumping up and down and be so excited for him. But if I qualify as a fanatic then so be it. Nothing wrong with wishing the best for someone.

Next Bucky Covington, for those who stumbled on to this blog and have no clue who Bucky Covington is, he was on American Idol the same season as Taylor Hicks. I was not a fan of Bucky’s during the season. A few months after Idol was over I interviewed Bucky about his debut CD. Bucky was so funny and sweet during our phone conversation I purchased his album. I loved it and a few months later my daughter and I went to see Bucky in concert.

I was still not really into Bucky yet. I liked his CD but I went to the concert for two reasons. I got free tickets because I had interviewed him and my daughter and I needed some time together. The concert got rained out and Bucky could not put on a concert, however this did not stop Bucky. Well many were waiting in the bleachers thinking Bucky was just going to come in the stands and sign some autographs we were all pleasantly surprised. Bucky brought a guitar, his twin and another band member with another guitar into the stands.

Bucky did an acoustic set right there in the stands. I became a big fan that night. I was surprised to see that since the concert was canceled and Bucky could have just left. He did all that he could to please the fans that had withered the summer storm and played for us anyway. But am I a casual fan or a fanatic?

Here are the items from the list that describe me in regards to Bucky Covington.

I made my daughter and I both tee shirts to wear to the 3rd concert of Bucky’s that we attended. We also each gave him a gift.

9.You TIVO all of the television appearances within your Dish’s reach and go online to search for the ones you couldn’t get.

I watch some shows Bucky is on when I know about them. If I am not missing a show I normally watch. But If I miss something on TV I will go to YouTube or Bucky’s MySpace looking for a video.

3. When conversing with other fans, you refer to his band members by their first names *only* as if talking about absent friends.

I know his twin brother Rocky’s name and point him out to those who do not know about him. I also know he has a band member called Ducky. Though I cannot tell you what exactly he does.

4. You have a Google alert on Bucky’s name and anyone even remotely associated with him.

I have a Google alert but I don’t always check them all out.
Two more I will add. Whenever Bucky is near my town I make sure to go see him in concert.

I have a autographed CD and Picture and I have one more picture that I want to get autographed.

I think I am just a casual fan. But I sure can’t wait to get his new CD and hoping he schedules a show near us this summer, so maybe a little more than casual.

Luke Bryan

I received an email one day asking if I wanted to interview Luke Bryan. At the time I did not even know who he was. I Goggled him and found the song “All my Friends Say” I had heard this song before and loved it, I just did not know who sang it. I purchased Luke’s album after the interview and like each song on the album. So am I a casual fan or fanatic with Luke Bryan?

Yes ok once again I had a shirt made special. It is now autographed.

Yes I have a Google alert on Luke to. If there is a concert in my area I do not want to miss it.

I started a blog but haven’t kept up with it. Maybe I will start doing that.

Once again I am a casual fan, but will purchase new CD and go to any concerts near me.

If I had vacation time and the money I would do this. But I haven’t

Not into signs and posters. But if I could afford it I would pay $100 extra for 3rd row. However the concert I went to I was front row for a lot less. I got lucky.

Yea I wore a hand designed shirt.

I know of fans in foreign countries and have posted alongside them on message boards

I would tell those with me to shh listen Taylor is playing. As a matter of fact he was playing in Wal-mart once and my little girl said “Hey Mom Taylor is playing”. I stood still and listened with a big smile on my face. It was late at night and there was no one around us so no embarrassing episode.

I spend quite a bit of time on them but mostly in daytime when everyone is gone and late in the evening.

So in conclusion I can probably be classified as a fanatic over Taylor Hicks. However, I am hurting no one. I spend time with my kids and husband and every weekend I am at other family members homes. I enjoy all things related to Taylor and I love his music but I also love my family and they know it.

So is being an “invested” fan a plus or minus? I think it is plus. I love music and I follow some great musicians and it is part of who I am. If I am happy and enjoying life in all aspects it not only benefits me, it benefits my family. We go to concerts together so it gives us more time together as a family. That is a great thing.

But then there is one other side to the dilemma. While I have other musicians I like and some that I follow regularly to some extent. Taylor Hicks is the main one that I follow all the time. I know how many CD's he sales, I know whenever there is any news about Taylor. I know the bad things that are said along with the good. I know when sales are not their greatest or when someone just wants to take a pop shot at Taylor for no other reason than they think they are cleaver.

Sometimes knowing all that gets me upset when I read the put downs or out – right lies. I do not have this happen with other artists because I do not know that much about them.Besides Judd Starr.

I do not know when bad things are said about Bucky or Luke. I purchase their music and go to concerts but I don’t get pissed off about bad publicity or rude/untrue comments. Because I usually don't know about it.

So as all things there are good things and bad things to being an invested fan but for good or bad I am right here for the ride. It is most times an amazing and fun ride that I enjoy very much.

Taylor Hicks performed at the Susan G. Koman Race for a Cure yesterday, March 15th. When “What’s Right is Right” was first released I mentioned that I could vision that song being about a couple goig through the fight of cancer. I thought of that because of these lyrics in the song.

It Began with Taylor Hicks….Good Things Were to Follow

I have interviewed several musicians but most who follow my blog only know of my Taylor Hicks interviews. Lately some have asked about my other interviews and I thought I would address that here, for all who are interested to see any other interviews. To date, I have interviewed around 16 musicians.

It all started when I became a fan of Taylor Hicks. I had been writing articles at Associated Content for a couple years before I started writing about Taylor Hicks. I had written several articles at Associated Content about Taylor Hicks. I interviewed fans based on their experiences when they saw Hicks in concert. At the time, I did this strictly because I was interested in all things in regard to Taylor.

However, one day I received an email from an Associated Content manager asking if I wanted to interview Taylor Hicks. I had never interviewed a celebrity before so I was shocked to say the least at the offer. To be honest I was very skeptical that it would actually happen. I was given a date and time and then it was canceled. I thought yeah, ok this will not happen. Then I got an email with another date and time. The call came through and I conducted my first interview and it was with Taylor Hicks.

Then I was offered an interview with Katherine McPhee. I was not a fan of Katherine’s so I almost turned this down. But then I rethought and if I wanted to break into the field of interviewing musicians I knew I would have to accept it. The next thing I knew I was asked to interview Kellie Pickler. From there I was building a list of those I interviewed and I would request interviews with others, such as Chubby Checker and Bucky Covington.

I remembered that if it was not for American Idol I would have no clue who Taylor Hicks was. I started looking for independent artists and checking out their music. If I liked what I heard I requested an interview. The next thing I knew I was getting emails from various management agencies asking if I would like to interview people like Trace Adkins, Luke Bryan and others.

Interview With Taylor Hicks- This and That Info (For Now)

I spoke to Taylor Thursday evening around 7:15 EST. He was in a great mood, you could tell he was excited about the album and everything going on his life right now. In a little bit I will have an article up at AC with questions relating to the CD, Video and a couple about Grease. As I wanted the article to be about his CD I did not use everything for the article. So below you will see questions and answers to things you might be interested in. As always Taylor likes to keep his fans in suspense so a few of the answers did not clarify much. But if we knew all there was to know at all times then the fun would be gone out of discovering new things. You were at Regis and Kelly taping a segment Tuesday and Van Morrison was also there that day to perform. You got to watch him perform?

Taylor - Yes, I got to watch him perform. I also met Van and they said they watched me. It was one of those meetings that you never thought in a million years that you would encounter. I’m just really excited about that.

How did you come up with the idea of what to title the CD? Did you just title it after the song The Distance or was there something more to it?

Taylor - I leave that up to the imagination.

A list of credits for the album states that you played the piano on the album is this true?

Taylor - No, that’s not true.

Which song from the album is your favorite and why?

Taylor - Because I had so much freedom and creativity to release this record any one of them are my favorite in their own right.

You have some cover songs on the album, how did you decide the songs that you felt were the best for you to cover?

Taylor - I just spent years listening to all of them and decided when I made that record that I wanted to make, that I would put them on it.

Do you plan to make another video for your next single?

Taylor - I do.

Any idea yet what the next single may be?

Taylor - Not gonna tell ya. (Laughing)

I laughed said I knew you wouldn’t But can’t hurt to ask.

Are you planning to release some of your songs to the country market?

Taylor - Maybe

Are you going to be on Idol this year?

What has been the most exciting experience for you over the past couple years?

Taylor - Meeting Van Morrison two days ago.

What advice would you give to someone trying to get that break into music?

Taylor - Be persistent.

If we can get WRIR played on Open House Party it would be major coverage for the song. OHP is played on over 150 stations. Lots of these are monitored stations and also show up at yes.com giving lots of voting when it is played. Here is a little info about OHP for those who do not know.

Open House Party is an American radio show hosted on Saturday nights by John Garabedian that promotes itself as "the biggest party on the planet". It focuses on playing contemporary hit radio (CHR) music. started in 1987 and is syndicated by SuperRadio to more than 150 stations in the U.S. A companion program, Open House Party Sunday, hosted by Philadelphia, PA WRDW-FM radio DJ Kannon, also runs on the next evening on many stations.

Both programs are broadcast live (in Eastern and Central time only) via satellite from 7:00 P.M. to midnight (in Eastern and Mountain time) or from 6:00 P.M to 11:00 P.M (in Central and Pacific time). I think if we are going to request we should really listen to the show. I know lots of the music isn’t something we all like but I would think if they received tons of requests but not lots of new listeners they probably would not like that. You can find a station playing it online of listen on your radio. I listen to the show almost every weekend my kids love it so that would mean lots of young people would hear Taylor’s song.

There is an old saying that says “If you have nothing nice to say than say nothing at all.” Most of us were taught this at an early age by our parents. Now I truly believe in most instances this statement is best to be followed. There are times when it is not best to Not say anything.

Take for example telling someone who has a horrible voice that they are good and should try out for American Idol or some similar thing. If you know that their voice is absolutely horrible than I feel it is cruel to encourage them to embarrass themselves. If someone is dressed in a way that makes them look so bad they may embarrass themselves and will be ridiculed than by all means tell them. But if it is simply that you do not like the style they choose then maybe it is best to not say anything. They have a right to dress how they please. But what got me thinking about all this is people who cut down Taylor Hicks’ choices in HIS career.

There are a couple songs of Taylor’s that I don’t particularly like but that is true with all musicians. They have a few songs I do not like. But the thing is I do not go on public forums, blogs and fan sites and rag on Taylor for the songs I do not like. Instead I choose to talk about what I do like. If someone asks me if I like a song and I do not I will say I don’t but I will not write a post talking about how much I don’t like it.

Why? Because it is Taylor’s music career. It is his choice to record what music he likes. Whether I like said song or not is not going to make him change his opinion of the song he chose. But it could cause someone who stumbled across my post, which had not yet heard the song, decide not to check it out. Maybe they would have liked it but they passed on it because of the bad comments I had to say.

This is true in all regards to Taylor’s choices. I am not saying everyone has to like every single thing he does. But if you are a fan than there are things you must like. Why not concentrate on those things in what you post. If you are a fan than you should want Taylor to succeed and gain new fans. You should not want to say something that may make someone decide he is not worth checking out.

I read where someone said that they are amazed at people getting so worked up to defend a perfect stranger. See I see it such a different light. I see it this way. Why get so worked up into cutting down a perfect stranger and finding fault in everything that they do. If you do not like them than just tune them out. If you only like certain things about Taylor Hicks than just pay attention to what you do like. The stuff you do not like than just pay no attention to it. I do not like everything Kid Rock records. But I do like some of songs. If I talk about Kid Rock than I concentrate on what I do like. I recommend what I do like to others but I don’t go and discuss the stuff I don’t like. No one can please anyone all the time. That will never happen. If you are looking for someone who you will agree with everything that they do than I think you will end up being very disappointed in every person in life.

I think people seem to forget that celebrities are humans to. They have feelings just the same as the rest of us. How would you feel if every single thing you did in life was closely monitored by millions of people everywhere and then talked about it online for all to see? Do you think you would come out smelling like a rose in everything that you do? Yes I know a celebrity has to be prepared for this to happen. They chose to be in the public eye. But that does not make them any less human.

What if it was people you thought cared about you that were posting horrible things about you? Wouldn’t that make you feel even twice as bad? Fans of musicians/celebrities are supposed to be people who care about you. They are supposed to be the ones who want to see you succeed. You don’t expect them to turn on you. But it seems with Taylor that quite often happens. Some think Taylor is wrong for doing Grease. That totally makes no since to me. He is getting paid well I am sure. He is getting tons of publicity and rave reviews. He is playing too sold out venues. He is cross promoting his new CD. How could this choice be wrong? More importantly who has the right to say that it is wrong? It is Taylor Hicks life it is not your life.

How would you like it if someone was telling you that your career choice was wrong? What if they said you were ruining your life with your choice but you were doing what you enjoy and what pays your bills. Would you change just because they said you were wrong? Another example, what if someone was telling you, you were not cleaning your house right, correcting your kid’s right, treating your husband how he should be treated? Would you put up with their meddling or would you tell them to back the Fuck off?

I know we all have the right to voice our opinions just as I am doing here, just as you are able to do in comments. But maybe you should think twice about what you are going to say. Is your negative opinion going to make things change or is it simply going to maybe cause someone who might enjoy what you do not, just decide not to even check it out? If a new Taylor Hicks fan saw all the negative put downs would they bother checking around for good comments or would they maybe think “well if he can’t please his established fan base how can he please me?” Maybe they will just stop right there and never bother with checking out all of the good music and entertainment Taylor Hicks has to offer.

Your opinion is your right. But my opinion is this, if your opinion is going to cause a negative effect instead of a good one than it is best to JUST SAY NOTHING AT ALL.

Ice Storm Causing Me Lack of Taylor Hicks Information

I have missed so much info regarding Taylor Hicks this week. I am in Ohio and the ice storm that came through has had my electric out since Wednesday Morning. Then yesterday my phone goes out. We are surviving though. Kerosene heaters and lanterns sure come in handy. Though cooking is a challenge. They are saying they hope to ave electric on Sat at 6pm but no guarantees. I am at the library right now using the WIFI access to check on what I have missed so far. So Feb 17th we will get to see Taylor Hicks video. Can not wait for that to be come available. Also saw where Taylor has gotten 19 spins on the media base chart. Awesome!! Looks like Taylor doing things HIS way is going to pay off for him. I can not wait until I get to hear Taylor’s music on the radio where I am at. Ok that is all for now. Hopefully I have my electric and everything back on soon. I am hating winter. They say we have lots more snow coming next week. Geez I am getting spring fever. Catch up with ya’all later on.

Words from Taylor and Just my Thoughts

I have been debating on what I want to say in this post. I’m still not exactly sure if what I mean to say will come out exactly how I want it to. I read a blog today by Caryl. She had a meet and greet with Taylor Hicks and asked him some questions. Taylor was very open with her and gave her some information that I think is enlightening. We all know Taylor is a man who is great at giving short answers that sometimes does not give out all the information that the question is seeking. But in the last few times that someone has spoken with Taylor it seems he is giving more in-depth answers. This is what he did again with Caryl.

Last week Taylor made it known that their would be no audio or video recording aloud at the club dates he is doing while on tour with Grease. Many could not believe Taylor would say this. I thought it made since in away though. I know many people who if they can hear a song or watch a video online then they just do that instead of purchasing that product. Like the old saying says “If you can get the milk free, why pay for the cow?” I know all of us die-hard fans would still purchase anything Taylor has no matter what we have watched online. There are many people however who are not that enamored with Taylor and if they can hear/see it free they will.

I have several friends and family who have asked me to make them copies of Taylor’s music that that I have so they do not have to buy. They get upset when I tell them no and to go buy it. Some do go out and buy but most just go online and goggle for the videos and audio available or worse yet they just forget it.

Because of this I can understand why Taylor does not want it out there for people to get free and not purchase. It does not help his wallet or his standings in the music world for those who get it free and do not buy the product.

So back to Caryl’s blog post. A couple things that Taylor said that really stand out in my mind are below

Taylor: I know what the fans want but you have to create demand for yourself. That’s the key. I’m planning on playing some music from the new record but I gotta make sure that the record is effective. This record is really important to me from an artistic perspective. I have to do everything in my power to make the release as big as possible.

I agree with many who have said that Taylor’s release date for “What’s Right is Right” was changed from Jan 20th to the 27th because Obama’s inauguration is the 20th. I think that Taylor’s answer above even basically says the same thing. He wants the release as big as possible and competing with Obama will be hard. Hence the change in release date.

Taylor: well, yeah, guarded with his product. And you know, as a fan, I would think you would want to make this record as impactful as possible. The quality is what I’m worried about…I want people to hear great quality especially when you’re talking about new material. And we’ve got to create a buzz. What if I play a different song from the record in each market? You give people of piece of that and they wonder what he's going to do.

As a fan Taylor is right. I want this record to impact the music world in a major way. Taylor is on his own now. He has to make a name for himself from basically the ground up. He has to prove he has the talent and the smarts to do it his way and do it in a way to get people to notice.

People are constantly referring to Taylor has the lowest selling Idol. They don’t mention he has sold over 800,000 copies and was certified platinum. If Taylor can bring this record out and hit platinum and beyond it will mean amazing things. Or if he can just get music out their taht the masses enjoy.

Just think back to the reaction when it was announced Taylor was going to be Teen Angel in “Grease”. many thought Taylor had lost his mind and was making a huge mistake. But guess what, its Taylor’s decision to do what he feels is best for his career and “Grease” has proven to be a major accomplishment for him. People have taken notice and most have loved what they see.

So I have no doubt Taylor Hicks once again knows exactly what he is doing and it is going to turn out great. The man has loads of talent and the brains for knowing “”WHAT’S RIGHT is Right” for his life and career. Do I wish there was something out to see and listen to from his club dates and the new music? Well of course I do, I would watch and listen and I would still go buy it. But in away I am also kind of glad it is not. It is just like opening your Christmas gifts early. You love it when you get to, but when Christmas comes and there is nothing to open then the excitement for the big day is not there. Sure you still enjoy what you received but that experience of enjoying that day is gone.

When his last CD “Taylor Hicks” came out I had already heard them all online. Except for “Hell of Day” that was on the CD purchased at Wal-Mart. I rushed to Wal-Mart at midnight. I bought the CD and I was filled with excitement telling them to go get me 2 copies of Taylor Hicks’ new CD and telling them who he was. I went to the car I put the CD in before pulling out. But I had already listened over and over to the other songs. I went to “Hell of Day” and there was the excitement for hearing it for the first time. But still it was not the same excitement as if I had put that CD in not having the foggiest clue what was about to be heard. Does that make sense to anyone? Or am I just crazy?

Another answer that hit a cord in me was

Taylor: People thrive on information from me and I understand that. People use information as currency. All I can do is go out there and be who am and entertain and hopefully please old fans and make some new ones and keep working it as long as I can.

People use information as currency. Am I guilty of that? Are we all guilty of that? I started this blog strictly because I love to write. I love to have people read what I write and I love the talents of Taylor Hicks. So of course my thoughts back then were write about Taylor.

We all search for the places that give the most up to date information about Taylor. The sites that have it first or create controversy get the most attention. Is that my blog? Of course not. My blog is simply just a blog about Taylor Hicks among a long list of blogs about Taylor Hicks. I have had a couple interviews with Taylor ,do I feel that makes me special to him? No way! Do I feel that makes me special to anyone? Again nope. Does it feel good when someone reads them and say “You asked some amazing questions, thank you for asking him that“. Of course. Everyone feels good if someone compliments them on something they do. Did I ever think I was using those interviews as currency? Maybe I have gotten paid for a couple things I have written about Taylor or interviews if you call $5 to $20 pay. But I would write everything I have written all over again for just the joy of it. Most times I write the articles for free so people can read the information quickly or I simply blog about it here. The interviews I have had with Taylor mean more to me than any amount of money because for a few seconds I got to speak to the man that I voted and rooted so hard for.

But I do not think Taylor meant currency as in money but currency as far as in who has the information about Taylor. Who is “important” in Taylorland, well, who thinks they are important because as we all surely know Taylor is selling a product, his music and we are the buyers. I love getting info out there for people to read. I share the links to things I have written or interviews for people to get that info. So yes maybe in a way that is currency to. Go here read what I wrote. Yes guess we are all guilty.

But if it gets Taylor even one more fan than taht is great.

Sure he loves having fans, sure he appreciates us. Without fans he wouldn’t be where he is but we are just that.. fans. The only thing Taylor owes any of us is entertaining us. That is all he owes any of us.

Taylor Hicks Happenings Jan 12th - Jan 17th 2009

This past week was a busy one for Taylor Hicks. Along with appearing in 2 shows a day in Grease. Monday Jan 12th was the video shoot for his first single “What’s Right is Right”.

A few days later Jake Davis who is shooting Taylor’s video posted a picture of Taylor during the shoot. Jake had this to say.

“We're out of the snow of the windy city and in the warmth of the edit. Since a lot of you were asking for behind the scenes photos I thought I'd give you just a little taste. I'll get in trouble if I show you too much. Taylor was a real class act and a real pleasure to work with. The video is going to be really iconic. I'll keep you posted”.

He was on WGN’s Early Morning show Jan 16th where he was able to play the Bozo the Clown grand prize game. This was a game that used to be on the show and kids would play for a chance to win a bike. This was a show Taylor watched as a child . Taylor donated $500 for every ball that he successfully threw into a bucket too the Boys and Girls Clubs in Chicago, he was able to get 5 balls into a bucket, the Boys and Girls Club will get $2,500 dollars. Taylor not only has talent and charisma he has a heart of gold doing whatever he can to help kids any time that he can. Taylor also performed his song The Fall from his Early Works album.

Saturday Taylor had his first after show concert at Martyrs in Chicago. The reports are that as expected the concert was amazing. Taylor sang his single “What’s Right is Right” among songs from his album “Taylor Hicks” and some cover tunes. It is also reported that Taylor sang a song by Bobby Womack “Woman’s Got to Have it”. Even more exciting is that is has also been said this song is on Taylor’s new album.

I can not wait to hear Taylor’s version. I love Taylor’s versions of “Gonna Move” and “Wherever I Lay my Hat” . I do not like the originals very much but those songs sung by Taylor Hicks are a couple of my favorites off of his album.

I hope Woman's Got to Have it is on the new CD The Distance. I am excited to see wehat Taylor has done to make this song his own.

Taylor’s single release of “What’s Right is Right” has been pushed back again from the 20th to the 27th. I hate that we have to wait longer but being as the 20th is President Obama’s inauguration day it is probably for the best. We want Taylor’s song to get as much radio play and attention as possible the day it is released and the nation will be focused on getting out the old and bringing in the new that day not new music.

Maybe with luck the video will also be ready on the 27th and we can get both that day.

A Turn in the Tide? American Idol Supporting Taylor Hicks.

When a tide turns, it goes in an opposite direction. That is just what appears to be happening with American Idol in regards to Taylor Hicks. I think it is about time. After Taylor won American Idol we heard Simon saying America got it wrong. We saw and heard Simon tell a contestant to stick her gum on Taylor’s face. Meaning the poster behind her of Taylor of course. But knowing Simon if it had actually been Taylor standing there we would have heard the same thing.

American Idol the past couple years have appeared to completely leave Taylor out of AI promotion. Hiding his posters behind plants and such, sticking it off in the corner of our TV screens and seemingly wanting to throw Daughtry (I have nothing against Chris just stating a fact) in the viewers face and leave Taylor out.

It seems that is changing now. We know Taylor will be on American Idol sometime this Season and AI has posted upcoming news about Taylor on the American Idol site the past few weeks. If you visit http://american-idol-updates.com/ now you will a piece about Taylor’s request for extra’s in his video. It is the 1st Article there. I am almost positive that is a first since Taylor won. (There is a pole there to vote for your idol to, while you are there. Taylor is in the lead so far.)

Now that Taylor is such a huge success in the Broadway production of Grease, is that why the tide as turned. Is this why American Idol is now remembering that yes Taylor did win Season 5? I don’t care what the reason is, it is just awesome to finally see Taylor getting support where he should have been getting it from all along.

Another thing I find interesting, is that with Taylor’s debut self-titled album, after winning Idol, there was NO music video. But now that Taylor has his own record company (Modern Whomp Records) and his album is Independent, there is a music video that is being shot tomorrow.

The old saying is If you want something done right, than do it yourself. Seems like this is going to be true in regards to Taylor Hicks and his music.

Taylor Hicks is Going The Distance, But are we in the Twilight Zone?

January 5th I posted a picture and link to Rocket Science that was info on Taylor’s upcoming single coming out Jan 20th and the CD coming out March 10th. Then it was discovered that you could go to Amazon and hear a 30 second clip of “What’s Right is Right”. A song that I am very eager to hear the rest of.

Yesterday the play button was removed and you can no longer hear the single. Today it was discovered that Rocket Science took down the promotion page. So now all the info that was discovered has disappeared. Have we landed in the musical version of The Twilight Zone.

Did we all just have a very vivid premonition of events to come? Did we read and hear what we think we did? Or are we in the “Soul Patrol Twilight Zone?”

New and Amazing things are happening for Taylor. We the "fans of Taylor" and his amazing music" are going to benefit greatly from those things. That is absolutely NOT The Twilight Zone.

I just wanted to wish all my visitors a safe, happy, fun and healthy New Year. I enjoy writing about all Taylor Hicks happenings on this blog. When I started this blog October 16th 2006, I wasn’t sure how far it would go or how long I would keep posting to it but now it is nearly 3 years later (boy it doesn’t seem that long) and I am still following Taylor Hicks news and music and enjoying every minute of it. Thank you all for the visits and comments to my blog. Some of you are friends who I really am so happy to have gotten to know. Through the music of Taylor Hicks we have not only discovered a man with an awesome voice and personality to match, we have become a fan base filled with people who have made friendships that have uplifted us and enriched our lives.

When something good happens for Taylor, you can feel the excitement the fan base feels as a whole. When we are awaiting new music or videos, such as the upcoming CD the anxiousness and excitement we all feel comes through. We all have a common bond and it brings us closer.

I can not wait to see what the future of 2009 holds for Taylor and to experience all the joy and excitement that will abound in the Soul Patrol.

Taylor Hicks 2008 The Year in Review

2008 brought some great Taylor Hicks new for fans. Taylor kept busy taking his career in new and bigger levels. I am sure I have missed some happenings so please leave comments of anything you know I have missed and I will get it added to the list.

January 2008 In the first couple weeks of January 2008 Taylor parted ways with Arista records.
Now at the start of 2009 with Taylor having his own label, Modern Whomp Records and partnering with Arttist2Market, Taylor Hicks has total control of his new album due out in March and he can create the kind of album that he wants. I am sure 2009 is going to be a great year for Taylor.

February 8 2008 Regis and Kelly aired Wedding Week 08. Kacy Hardenbrook and Jordan Edsall of Garrett Indiana were the lucky wedding couple who chose to have Taylor Hicks sing at their wedding. Taylor sang The Right Place and it was one of his best performances.

February 15 2008 Taylor performed on ESPN for the McDonalds NBA All-Star Celebrity Game.

February 22 2008 Taylor received award from Alabama Music Hall of Fame

April 27, 2008 Taylor sang the National Anthem at Talladega Super speedway in Talladega, AL. It was aired on the fox network.

May 10th 2008 Taylor’s performed at Ona’s Music Room with Spoonful James

May 13th 2008 Taylor performed at The Hannah Home Charity Event, Boots, Blues and BBQ in Alabama

May 15th 2008 Mary Colurso at Birmingham News. Alerted us to the fact that Taylor Hicks was going to be in the Broadway production of “Grease” in the Teen Angel scene that was made famous by Frankie Avalon singing Beauty School Dropout

May 16th 2008 Taylor was on the Today show to announce his upcoming role in Grease.

May 17th 2008 Taylor on cruise ship in Italy for a week. Performing and motivational speaker.

June 6th 2008 Taylor started the role on Broadway as Teen Angel in Grease.

Remember when the news first released? Emotions were everywhere. Some loved the idea, others hated it, still others thought Taylor was selling out and others thought he was going to ruin is career. Now look at all the success Taylor is having as Teen Angel.

June 13th 2008 Taylor performed Beauty School Dropout on Regis and Kelly

June 14, 2008 Pocket Full of Soul Documentary about the Harmonica, starring Clint Black, James Cotton, Magic Dick (from the J. Geils Band), Taylor Hicks (from American Idol) and John Popper (from Blues Traveler among others and narrated by Heuy Lewis, was screened at the Maui Film Festival. The film was screened as a "work in progress" and was not in competition, so it wasn’t the premiere.

June 27th 2008 The New York Post reported that Taylor Hicks was worth $150,000 a week in sales for the Grease box office.

July 4th 2008 Taylor performed on The Capital Fourth special aired on PBS. Also on the show was Hewy Lewis who also can play a mean harp.

August 12th 2008 Taylor released his CD Early Works. It was a Target Exclusive.

September 14th 2008 Taylor left the Broadway Production of Grease in New York.

September 15th 2008 It was announced that Taylor Hicks would star as teen Angel in a National Tour of Grease starting December 2nd 2008.

I have become very interested over the past couple years in learning more about Indie Music. The interest started when I discovered Taylor Hicks and realized that if it was not for American Idol I would have never heard his soulful voice and I would have never become some interested in music as I am now. I would have missed out on discovering other great musicians also. That brings me to another great Indie artist I discovered and interviewed around a year ago, Judd Starr I now consider Judd a friend and with following the careers of Judd and Taylor I am always reading about the Indie scene. A little while ago I read a article that I like very much.

It talks about the History of Indie music and a couple excepts I like a lot from the piece are these.

1) the Internet has provided a way to get the music out to fans that has never before been attempted. The result is accessible, quality music in almost every conceivable drama.

2) Two definitions of Indie music are
A) Established in the ’90s; an indie act is any one that is not signed on with the big three labels.

B) Another way to define the indie scene is in comparison to the acts signed by big labels, and played on the radio.

They go on to say that any recent listen to a local station should alarm music fans everywhere: the same artists or style of music is played over and over again, on every single radio station. Big labels laud themselves for being a mix, but the truth is there is a lot of R&B, even more pop, and a few dozen acts considered "rock" thrown in to appease those who do not know better. Fans who do not like the feeling of wanting to stick augers in their ears have turned en masse to the potential of the internet.

And the excerpt I like most is “ Perhaps now more than ever before, music has the opportunity to truly be judged (for the first time by both sides) by the quality instead of by the amount of sales.” I find this especially true for Judd Starr and Taylor Hicks and I am sure many, many more that I have yet to discover. But with Taylor and Judd I feel the quality of the music they make and the connection they have to their fans says it all. Awesome Taylor Hicks Tidbits

Just a couple bits of cool info those who don’t follow the boards might be interested to hear about. First the website My Rocket Science http://www.myrocketscience.com/ has some info scrolling on their news scroll bar. It says for one Taylor Hicks new album The Distance 3/10/09

But another ‘Amazing” great bit of news is it says “Taylor Hicks video here in early January”. I have a feeling My Rocket Science will be getting a huge amount of page views this winter along with the site Artist2Market www.artist2market.com . Finally what we have all waiting so patiently for a new song by Taylor Hicks and a “MUSIC VIDEO”. 2009 is shaping up to be a great year.

Another bit of news. It appears American Idol may be going to give some face time to the Soul man. The new commercial airing on Fox now showcases a little of all the Idols including OUR man Taylor. It shows the clip when Simon asks Taylor why was there and he answers “ Because I want my voice heard’ Simons reply why? “Because I think I got one” It is about time and I hope this isn’t a fluke and more promotion of Taylor shows on AI during the Season.

The Story of The Right Place

So I thought I had read everything that had been written concerning Taylor Hicks’ debut album “Taylor Hicks”. I had however missed something. I just stumbled on it today. Jim Vallance co-wrote the song The Right Place with Bryan Adams over 20 years ago. Yes I had already heard that part. I however heard it was written for Ray Charles but he had died before it was recorded and then it was given to Taylor Hicks. That isn’t the whole story.

Here is the rest. “In March 1989 Bryan Adams and I wrote a song for Joe Cocker, called "The Right Place". Joe asked us for "something that sounds like Ray Charles" ... and that's exactly what we wrote. But Joe decided "The Right Place" was the "wrong song", and he didn't record it.

So we sent the song to Ray Charles himself, but Ray didn't record it either (I was never able to confirm if Joe and Ray actually heard the song, or if it was rejected by their "handlers" before it reached their ears).

After that, we gave up, and "The Right Place" collected dust on my shelf for nearly 20 years.

A year later, in September 2006, when I heard that Taylor was recording an album, I remembered what Randy had said, and it made me think of "The Right Place". I knew the song wasn't a "hit" in the traditional sense, but I thought it might be a perfect vehicle for Taylor to channel his "inner Joe and Ray".

I contacted my publisher, Ron Moss. Ron agreed the song was an appropriate "pitch", and he sent it to Pete Ganbarg, the independent "A&R man" who was assembling material for the Taylor Hicks project.

At first, Pete and producer Matt Serletic didn't think "The Right Place" was exactly right for Taylor. They liked the song, but they wanted us to "re-harmonize" the B-section.

With that comment in mind, Bryan and I traded a few emails. But we were at a loss. We really wanted to "deliver" for Pete and Matt, but we didn't know where to go with it, what changes to make. It looked like the song might spend another 20 years on the shelf.

But then something unexpected happened. During the next week or two the song started to "grow" on Pete and Matt, and presumably on Taylor and Arista chief Clive Davis. They decided to record the song after all, without the requested "re-harmonization".

I was thrilled!

Bryan sang beautifully on our "home demo", but I was equally impressed with Taylor's performance. I was also very happy with Matt Serletic's production and arrangement, especially the use of bass, drums, guitar and gospel backing vocals (our original demo was very sparse ... just me on keyboards and Bryan's vocal).

On July 17, 2007 Taylor performed "The Right Place" on the popular morning television show, "The View". It was "back to basics", with Taylor on vocals and harmonica and Loren Gold on piano, similar to the way the song had originally been written and demo'd.

It was apparent that Taylor had developed an affinity for the song in the ten months since he'd recorded it. On "The View", his vocal performance digs even deeper than it did on the recorded studio version, and Loren provides solid support on the piano.”

And then this part of Jim’s comment really pleases me.

“For anyone who ever doubted the legitimacy of his American Idol success, this performance proves, beyond a doubt, that Taylor Hicks is the "real deal".

Taylor Hicks in With Great Musicians

A new Taylor Hicks interview on December 10th with Tim of Tim’s Travels is one of the best so far in my opinion. That opinion is based on the commentary by Tim and the rest on the show. Taylor Hicks has had a time with press the last couple years. That started changing when Taylor took the role as Teen Angel in the Broadway play Grease and now that he is playing the part in The National Tour of Grease that great press is continuing. It is also spreading over in to the hype about Taylor’s upcoming Sophomore CD “The Distance”.

Taylor Hicks is now on is own with his own record company Modern Whomp Records and the Distribution deal with Artist2Market. Taylor has landed some major names to help with this CD. Simon Climie (Eric Clapton, B.B King) as his producer. Nathan East who is Eric Clapton’s bass player plays on the album along with, ,Abe Laborial Jr who played with McCartney and Doyle Brammel. Like Tim says these guys have enough money that they do not have to play with Taylor Hicks if they don’t want to. They don’t need Taylor. I think it says a lot for what Climie and these musicians think about Taylor Hicks and his upcoming album. I think they have a lot of faith in him and the music. All of this just makes me even more anxious to get my hands on this CD as soon as it becomes available,

1 Month on, Has American Idol Learned Anything?

I have been thinking a lot about the woman who committed suicide in front of Paula Abdul’s house. Then Abdul was on Barbara Walters and talked about how she told American Idol she was being stalked by Goodspeed and to please not let her on the show. They let her on anyway for the entertainment value.

As fans of Taylor Hicks we have often noticed the way American Idol has belittled Taylor Hicks and even the fans, by saying America got it wrong. It seems the contestants are not the only ones that American Idol does not care about. Even their own judges do not rate the respect they should. If AI feels it will make good TV no one is above being hurt or embarrassed in the name of so-called “entertainment“.

I am starting to write for another site besides just Associated Content. At this site I covered the Abdul/Goodspeed/Idol triangle.

One Month on, Has American Idol Learned Anything?

It has been one month since Paula Goodspeed committed suicide near American Idol Judge, Paula Abdul's home. Today we ask, has American Idol gone to far just to make 'good TV'?. Because the audition phase of American Idol seems to be more based on making fun of people who feel they have talent, rather than finding great talent itself.

The entertainment factor is what keeps AI showing these horrible auditions and making fun of the contestants. We all know that sometimes making fun of a person can cause that person a huge amount of mental torment, but another big issue with American Idol and it’s decisions on what to air, and who to allow in to audition, that is currently in the news, concerns Paula Abdul and fan/stalker Paula Goodspeed. In February of 2006 Paula Goodspeed auditioned for American Idol. Simon Cowell, as always, was snide because Goodspeed had braces on her teeth, and Simon of course had to say to her that she had so much metal in her mouth, making fun of her. At first, when she walked in, Cowell was commenting about how much she resembled Abdul, which was not true, and Goodspeed told the producers, and the judges, that she was a huge fan of Paula’s, and that she had been drawing Abdul since she was a child.

I received a Google alert about Taylor Hicks from Kallen at Kitchen Window Birder: Six Random Things about meme.. Taylor was mentioned in her 6 Random Things About Me blog. It seems this is a craze that has hit the blog-o-sphere. It seems a fun thing to participate in so here goes.

1) I have 3 kids that mean the world to me. My oldest is from my first marriage. His father and I divorced when he was 3. But his step Father has always treated him and loved him as his own. My son tells everyone that his step Dad is his Real Dad.

2) I am very shy. You might not know that by chatting to me online but when you meet me in person it is very easy to tell.

3) I hate my hair lol. Well I do, it is naturally curly and I have to fight with it like crazy. My husband always teases me says he knows if it is raining or going to rain because when I get up in the morning my hair has lost a couple inches from the curls tightening up.

4) I have notebooks scattered all through my house with notes about things I want to write about, beginnings to that #1 novel that have never been finished and poems or bits of poems that come to mind all of the seldom to soon be forgotten.

5) Elvis Presley was my first IDOL. He died when I was 10 years old and as a teen in the 80’s it wasn’t the in thing to love Elvis but that didn’t stop me. I gushed about how gorgeous he was and how talented. I still feel that way.

6) Another IDOL as taken center stage over Elvis. He hasn’t taken his place just put him on the back burner for the moment. That person as all of you who read here already know is Taylor Hicks. I saw him when he first auditioned for American Idol and started rooting for him from that moment on. I am way more involved in the Taylor Hicks craze than I was in Elvis. I thought I was nuts over Elvis, my family thought I was obsessed, however now I see as do they how much more involved I have become in Taylor. I never joined Elvis fan boards, fan sites or ran a blog about Elvis. Of course I never attended a Elvis concert. I would have if I could have though. But for now since 2006 Taylor Hicks has become my musical obsession so to speak. I can’t wait for the new album of Taylor Hicks’ to come out Feb 10th the album is called The Distance.

The Distance - Taylor Hicks Album Title

A new chat/interview with Taylor Hicks from 92 PRO-FM radio in Providence R.I was found today. In the video Taylor drops some news about his new CD. The albums title is “The Distance”. Taylor also states that the album has some country, blues and gospel.

I am so ready for this album to come out. February seems so far away. But with all the great Grease press, interviews and album hints it is proving to be an exciting time to wait for the CD to drop.

I looked up the definition for the word “distance” while there were several given there is one I like best when relating it to Taylor’s CD.

The extent of time between two events; an intervening period.

The extent of time could be related to a few things, 10 years pre-idol, the 2 1/2 years since Idol, or simply what Taylor has been saying for a long time. He is in this for the long haul. He doesn’t see it as a sprint but as a marathon.

I know Taylor Hicks will be around for “The Distance”. Taylor’s fans are behind him all the way and we will support him in all he does. Each move he makes will be a move that will take him further down the road. He has wanted to share his voice for so long and Taylor, his voice, his talent in all he goes after, and the fan support will keep propelling him down the music highway for a long time to come.

On Taylor’s MySpace page a few new pictures have been added. One is a picture of a song title and some lyrics. The lyrics are very intriguing and I can not wait to hear the song.

Taylor Hicks and Grease Reports From Opening Night

Last Night was the debut of the National tour of the Broadway hit Grease, starring Taylor Hicks as Teen Angel. Many were gathered at the Boogie Board waiting for play by play recaps. Excitement was in the air as we all sat at our pc’s waiting for news of the happenings of the night. Taylor and those in attendance had a outstanding opening night by all reports given.

is GORGEOUS.

Taylor will "probably" be using the "Grease" band for his shadow tour around the country.

The show seems better than New York. More Energetic, More fun! Huge applause after every single number.

National Tour Of Grease Starts Now - Starring Taylor Hicks

I posted a piece about Taylor and encouraging people to go see him in Grease on my Live Mic Blog. I wanted to share it here also.

If you have not seen Taylor Hicks live and in person than you have not seen the real Taylor Hicks. Taylor loves performing in front of the audience he feeds off the energy supplied by the audience and they thrive off of him. It is win-win.

Taylor is not doing a concert tour at the moment however the national tour of the fifties-themed musical Grease, which Taylor Hicks starred in as “Teen Angel” this past summer in the Broadway production at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre, launches today at the Providence Performing Arts Center in Providence, RI.

I have yet to see Taylor in the Teen Angel role, however those who saw Grease this past summer give Taylor as Teen Angel and the entire show a complete thumbs up. Taylor Hicks has took the role of Teen Angel and made it his own. The tour will stop near me Dec.16th- the 21st and I can’t wait to see it. Did you collaborate with any writers on this album?

Taylors answer was

Yeah, I did actually. There were some writers in Nashville that I wrote with. And there were a lot of different styles of writers - one of the writers is Gary Nicholson in Nashville. Also a couple writers that are friends of mine, Wynne Christian and Alan Little. There are a lot of different people that have come together. I've been able to have the time to be able to really focus on what I feel a great song is.

So I researched Gary and found out that he has written or co-written several songs for many singers. So I went to you tube on the search of some of the songs that I could find. Videos of some songs are below. If you know of othes please leave the link here.

I got on the computer today after baking pies and making side dishes all day for Thanksgiving tomorrow and loved all I have read and seen in regards to Taylor Hicks and what he is been up to. First I found the TV Guide Interview. Taylor sounds so excited and happy. I loved these parts of the interview.

TVGuide.com: After you left Arista, did you decide right away you would start your own label or were you looking at other homes?
Hicks: I'd been offered traditional record deals and I just felt like it was best for me to be able to start my own label and partner with distribution. Having your own label really allows you to be out there and have total control of your art and how you want to sell it and how it best fits you. You really live and die by the sword, which I think really makes the artist drive a lot more — drive to succeed.

TVGuide.com: What's the update on your new album?
Hicks: It's coming out Feb. 10. I should have a single the first of the new year. I can honestly say that some of the instincts that I had picking songs on Idol, I was able to use picking songs for this album, which has really been a great experience. I've been able to wrap my artistic expression around these songs and I've had some time to live with these songs and be able to visualize what I want for each of them. I'm really excited about the record because I feel like from the style aspect, nowadays you listen to records that sound very similar on each track, but this album, I wanted to take the listener on a musical journey and touch on the stylings that are reflective of who I am as an artist.

TVGuide.com: How different is it from your first one?
Hicks: There's definitely soul. I think it all starts with soul, but this time around, I think the songs are touching on a lot of different styles that reflect me, so that's different in a way. On the last record, it was kind of an R&B influence. This is my journey as a songwriter. But what's really interesting and cool about it is I'm gonna be able to play my single within the Grease show. It's a very unique aspect. It's like I'm gonna be performing as Teen Angel, but then I'll also be performing my single to the record, so everybody who comes and sees me as Teen Angel can also experience me as a musician.

We know Taylor has the drive to succeed. That is why he stuck with music for so long and gave Idol all he had. That drive will carry him very far. I am so ready to go on the musical journey with Taylor. Not only will people get to see Taylor Hicks as Teen Angel but they will get to hear and experience Taylor’s single. I can’t wait for that.

So then after I read the TV Guide interview I found new designs of Taylor Hicks Shirts. I love the first two. So after that I saw the studio picture posted at Right Hicks Save, awesome to see a recent picture of Taylor. He must be somewhere fairly warm, he has shorts on or I guess it could because the studio is hot… Taylor is there of course it’s HOT!

November of 2006 Taylor and the Soul Patrol was just getting ready for the release f his debut album “Taylor Hicks”. He was on many shows singing Christmas songs or the single “Runaround.” This was posted at Idol Thoughts 2 years ago.

Taylor is gearing up for his CD release on December 12, and his PR machine seems to be working overtime. People magazine knows what sells, and will feature Taylor on the cover of the 2007 People Yearbook issue along with Jennifer Anniston, Brad Pitt, Beyonce, and Steve Irwin. He was also featured as part of People's sexiest men alive issue and his picture was also in last week's issue.
This week, Taylor will be performing on NBC's Christmas in Rockefeller Square. The show airs at 8:00 p.m. on November 29. Here's the rest of the schedule as it stands right now:

Finally the long wait is over. Taylor Hicks fans have been waiting a long time to get the video of the concert Taylor did at the Warfield Theater. Now you can pre-order Whomp at the Warfield at Amazon. The release date is February 17th. This is such great news Taylors Sophomore CD goes on sale February 10th. The National Tour of Broadways show Grease starts December 2nd with Taylor Hicks starring as Teen Angel, with Taylor singing a single of his CD after the show. I am sure once the tour of Grease is over Taylor will then start touring his CD. Fans of Taylor’s have a great year ahead of us with more great music from Taylor.

Taylor Hicks - Do I Make You Proud?

I got a Google alert today about Taylor Hicks single “Do I Make You proud?” The Mormon Home Evening blog has used Taylor’s song and a video at YouTube to dedicate a tribute to the men and women of the United States Armed Forces. I have always loved this video and am so glad that someone else realizes how touching the song and the video is to remind us of all the troops are doing and risking for us.

So after I went to this site I went to search and see how many copies have been sold thus far of “Do I Make You Proud?” I didn’t find any updated info but for those who don’t know in its first week of sales, Taylor’s hit sold 190,000 copies to lead the Hot 100 singles chart put out by Billboard. In addition, Taylor’s single sold 38,000 digital downloads, according to Nielsen Soundscan. The single, which includes a cover of the Doobie Brothers' "Takin' It to the Streets" as a b-side, also led the Pop 100 and Single Sales charts.

If anyone knows how many it has sold now please post that information here. Getting Rich Being Rude - My Vent

This past week the New York Post published a piece that Simon Cowell earns 36 million dollars a year from Fox’s reality show American Idol. I still do not understand what on earth Simon Cowell offers that entitle him to that kind of pay. He has no talent, unless you call insulting others a talent. What about the firefighters that risk their life’s every day, the policeman who encounter people every day that are breaking the law and may shoot them, the ordinary people who are out working hard every day sometimes in extreme rather conditions or being exposed to chemicals that put the health at risk, the troops who are risking their lives 24 hours a day 7 days a week. What about all the elderly who cannot afford their medicines, the children who have horrible diseases and their parents cannot afford the medical treatment they need?

I know all celebrities and musicians receive way too much money but at least these people have a talent and do things that entertain us and bring joy to our lives. But Simon Cowell, come on all that man can do is call people names and find ways to put them down. If he can’t find fault with their singing he will insult their hair, clothes or dancing ability. As he looked in a mirror he isn’t all that. Then on top of that he makes way more than Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson. Both of whom have talents and firsthand experience in the music industry. It just seems crazy to me for anyone to think Simon is worth that money. I wouldn’t even spend the cost of ticket or the cost of gasoline to go see him spew his dribble somewhere. I guess the world takes all kinds of people to go around but really we have people all over who put people down and degrade them every day for free why pay Simon Cowell such a huge, ridiculous amount to do it?

WHAT has been long suspected about bad blood among the judges on "American Idol" over money was confirmed over the weekend.
Nigel Lythgoe, the former executive producer of "Idol," says that Simon Cowell is earning $36 million a year from Fox for the show - far more than his counterparts, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson.

Jackson's and Abdul's "salary has never been advertised and Simon has been in Forbes which is why I am talking about it," Lythgoe told an Australian newspaper.
"But there is always jealousy in every job.

"Why is he getting more than the other two judges? Because it is believed that he brings more to the table."

Lythgoe, who quit the show at the end of last season to concentrate full-time on his own series, "So You Think You Can Dance," believes Cowell is worth every penny that he's paid.

"He has actually handled his negotiations quite brilliantly," Lythgoe says.
Cowell's negotiating strategy has been never to sign a contract for longer than 12 months.

"He's only ever negotiated by the year," Lythgoe said. "And now he is getting something like $22,000 per minute."

Helping a Soldier

My sister has been sending emails back and forth to a soldier stationed in Iraq for about 6 months now. She is starting to get a box of goodies together to send him for Christmas. She has all the traditional stuff she is going to include, toiletries, crossword puzzles, candy and cookies. She asked me what other stuff he might like. I told her to send him CDs and books that those would help entertain him, which I am sure is something that he needs.

So of course I told her I would help fill her box by putting in Taylor Hicks CDs and his book Heart of Soul. I told her about jewelry sprout and the Proud of our Troops Drive. She thinks it is great that people do stuff like this to send stuff to the troops and is thrilled I am helping fill her care package.

Ok so this post isn’t a Taylor Hicks post but it is on my mind. It seems this year has flown by. Halloween is right around the corner, which means Christmas will be before we know it. It seems every year I swore that I was not going to spend as much as the year before. Then every year I spend more than the year before. When kids get older the price to get items they truly want goes way up. Just one gift alone will cost me over $300. The WII is a gaming system I have to try my best to get this year (I’ll enjoy that one to) and mp3 players, I-pods and cell phones just to name a few. I wonder if they would settle for an antique Christmas it could consist of an Atari System, cassette recorder, am/fm radio with ear phones and a couple tin cans with string in between them. I know, I know, not likely. But it would sure save my pocket book. Guess I better start checking the Black Friday ads after Thanksgiving. Umm maybe they could have those ads to save us money in getting Tickets to see Taylor in Grease. That way we could buy more tickets and take others to see the show. Hey it’s a idea, whether it’s a likely idea or not, it is an idea.

E! News hosted by Ryan Seacrest gave us a quick glimpse of old footage of Taylor Hicks with Katherine McPhee after the Season Five finale announced Taylor Hicks as the 2006 American Idol winner. It wasn't much footage but even a quick glimpse of the Soul Man looking Hot is a good thing. Ryan was talking about 60 illion votes being cast for Bush as president verses 63 million for Taylor Hicks and Katharine. Even though it wasn't "new: news it was still great to hear Taylor mentioned and see is handsome smiling face.

How the Internet Changed Music

The internet is a huge place. There are no limits on where you can visit or what you can discover with the internet as your guide. The internet has changed music and continues to change it more every day. Before the internet and sites such as Face Book, MySpace, Live Journal and Yahoo Groups to name just a few getting your music out to those who would enjoy and appreciate it consisted of relying on a record contract or doing live gigs and getting a following that way. With the internet you can post your music online and get it out to many more people. Even if you do not have a record deal you can still get a large fan base that love and appreciate what you do. The internet has changed music so much.

The artist can interact more with their supporters though blogging, emails, journal entries and so many more ways. You build a more intimate relationship with you fans with the help of the internet than ever before. The fans feel more connected to the artist and are very supportive of everything they do. It almost builds a friendship of sorts between the artist and the fans. An artist who spends their time building the fan base and devoting some of their free time becoming personally involved on some level with the fans reaps the benefits for the rest of their career.

Many artists use the internet for this very purpose. For examples I will name a few that I follow.

Taylor Hicks is the first artist that I started keeping track of on the internet. There was a site Gray Charles that posted almost daily about Taylor. Taylor would check in now and then to leave audio blogs for his fans about things going on in his career. Fans loved every audio blog that Taylor left and talked together about the goings on in Taylor’s career. Taylor still leaves blogs now and then at other sites such as his MySpace about what is going in his career and so forth. His fan base has created many fan montages of Taylor and there are many fan run websites that keep up with all things Taylor Hicks. The fans have become friends with one another and meet when concerts are going on to go together, sometimes having pre concert parties or going to dinner together and the talk is Taylor Hicks.

My sister is vacationing in Florida. Her husband is a big golf lover. She told me he is thrilled because there are lots of places for Orlando golf. I went yesterday to try and find a good used car. I stopped at one car lot and the guy had several cars and vans but none of them were what I wanted. Either because of price or the vehicle itself. The man kept having us follow at him to look at yet another vehicle.

When I still found nothing I wanted he said I have a bus for sale out back you might be interested in. I laughed and said no I don’t think I need a bus. He laughed and said well ok if you are sure. The next words out of mouth had my husband saying here we go again. I told the man well the bus may be a good idea if I can get a bunch of Soul Patrollers together to go see a Taylor Hicks concert.

The man asked, what are Soul Patrollers and who is Taylor Hicks? Is that some kind of religious thing? I started laughing; my husband said did you have to ask? I told the guy some about Taylor. He said he likes Ray Charles and Sam Cooke so I told him he ought to check out Taylor Hicks.

When we left the man said he would have to see if he can find Taylor’s CD. I told him if not go online and you can order them. I don’t know if he will or not but at least now he knows who Taylor Hicks is and what a Soul Patroller is.

Sometimes we can get very involved in keeping up with the goings on in someone’s life that we care about. That is defiantly true when it comes to Taylor Hicks and his devoted fan base The Soul Patrol. We naturally want the very best for Taylor in everything he does. That is called being supportive but sometimes we just seem to want to see things happen at warp speed.

The music business can be very complex and things that are planned to happen sometimes have to be postponed or pushed back, sometimes canceled all together. You never know for sure know what will happen from one day to the next. Sometimes some may think (someone) in this case Taylor Hicks is wrong in the decisions he makes about his career. It is his career so whatever he is does and whenever he does it is his business. But I think that most times this thinking of he should do this and he should not do that isn’t so much about trying to control, but being afraid that something will not work out as it was hoped to work out. When you care about someone and you want to see them succeed and that can sometimes make a person worry that their success will not happen. However I think now everyone should look at Taylor’s past decisions and see that they mostly work out every time. Have a little faith in him.

For instance, I am sure many thought Taylor was crazy to go American Idol. His image did not fit for the American Idol stage. But look what ignoring the naysayers and doing what he wanted accomplished.

Some think his first CD after winning Idol wasn’t up to par. I so disagree with this. I love Taylor’s album Taylor Hicks. I play it all the time and he has sold 800,000 copies and it has been certified platinum. Now I would like to know how that is concidered a failure. He had nearly no radio play but still has sold 800,000 copies. That seems like a major success to me. I am sure there are many artists out there that wish they could sell that many. Who cares what this one or that one sold. Keeping up with the (Jones) as the saying goes has never made since to me at all. Just be yourself and be thankful for what you have and celebrate the good things in your life.

I think Taylor Hicks has a lot to celebrate and be happy about.
So then comes Grease many felt Taylor was selling out by doing Broadway and would be put down by the critics. Quite the opposite happened. Taylor made the role of Teen Angel his and owned the stage. Broadway, the press and New York loved him.
So then Taylor decides to go on tour with Grease starting in December. Again many think this decision is wrong. They feel it means Taylor won’t be putting out a CD soon and a tour won’t happen anytime soon. Then comes news Taylors CD will be out February 10th and today news broke that Taylor will be singing his single after the Grease performance every night. So we will get to see Taylor performing as Teen Angel and perform a new song plus get a CD in February.

So I think all this shows just to keep the faith in Taylor. It his career, he loves music and he loves to perform but everything takes time and planning. So have faith. It makes me think of the song Have a little Faith in Me. Below you will see I rewrote the lyrics a little to fit and also a video of the actual song.

Taylor Hicks, Teen Angel, New Single

The news about Taylor and his CD set to come out February 10th keeps getting better and better. December 2nd Taylor starts touring with the National Tour of Grease as Teen angel. Many fans were upset thinking it would push back a CD release and they didn’t think there would be a new CD until after the Grease tour ended. I too thought that might be so but I want to see Taylor as Teen Angel and so didn’t mind waiting for a new CD. Then October 7th on Taylor’s 32nd birthday it was announced that his sophomore CD would hit stores February 10th Now today even more great news as surfaced.

In an interview with Birmingham News today Taylor let us in on some more great news.

Taylor Hicks is rarely at a loss for words.

But he's had to contain himself this year, hearing and reading that his 800,000-unit-selling self-titled CD was a one-shot deal. That he wouldn't sign another record deal. That the 2006 "American Idol" was through.

"It's about driven me crazy to hold my tongue," Hicks says. "I've wanted to talk about this for three months, but I've been patient and trying to be smart about choosing my battles."

The battle, it seems, is over.

Hicks, who turned 32 on Tuesday, announced on his birthday that he had signed a deal to release his new CD in February 2009. It'll be on his own Modern Whomp Records label through Artist to Market (A2M), which gives the Birmingham native control over his recording destiny.

"I was offered a plethora of record deals, some traditional record deals and some non-traditional record deals," Hicks says. "It's been very hard not to just hop on the first one that was offered, but during that time when there was a lot more speculation that I might never sign one again, it couldn't have been further from the truth."

He calls the A2M deal "very cutting edge."

"In today's marketplace, having the control as the artist is key," Hicks says. "I'm in control of where I spend my marketing dollars, who I want to record with, and in control of the companies I hire out. It allows me a really focused release. Basically, I am my own record label."

What that means for the upcoming CD is that the bulk of it will be written or co-written by Hicks, who cut his musical teeth in bars in and around Birmingham.

"I've always been a singer-songwriter, and that's going to be able to surface a lot more than it did on the last record," he says. "On the last one, things had to move at such a quick pace that the actual art of songwriting couldn't really be seen on the last record."

Hicks is in pre-production of the CD now, working with producer Simon Climie (Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, Faith Hill) in the studio.

"I don't have a title for it, yet," Hicks says. "I'm kind of waiting for it to hit me."

Announcement of the new record deal comes just after Hicks' stint in the Broadway production of "Grease" comes to an end, and just before he hits the road as that show's Teen Angel for the national tour beginning Dec. 1.

"It was such a success and such a great way for me to learn a new craft," Hicks says of his Broadway debut. "I feel like if I'm going to have longevity in the entertainment industry, I've got to cover all aspects. I have to reinvent myself."

The national tour of "Grease" will offer a unique hybrid for Hicks, he says.

"We're going to cross-promote this record with the `Grease' tour," he says. "I'll be allowed to perform my single in the show on tour

Most importantly, it offers fans a chance to experience Hicks live, which he says is crucial to his success.

"There's such a live aspect to me," he says. "You put me on the radio, and you can't see me, you can't feel me, you can't touch me, so it's easy to count me out in that regard. On the road, that's where you really make your mark and have your longevity."

So don't count Hicks out just yet. He's only getting started, he says, and he doesn't pay attention to the naysayers.

"I hear those things, but I'm not into the talk, I'm into the walk," he says.

So not only will we get to see Taylor as Teen Angel we will also get to hear and see him perform a new single. I for one cannot wait to get the tickets and attend the show. Like the article says don’t count Taylor out. Taylor Hicks is different than artists on the market today and I think he has the talent and the brains to pull off about anything he desires. Get your compact flash cards ready to store all the great audio, video and pictures that will be coming are way. Today brought some great news that the Soul Patrol has been waiting for. What a great day for the news to break as it is Taylor’s 32nd birthday. The below release was just released today.

Celebrating his birthday today, Hicks has tapped the independent artist services company Artist To Market (A2M) to release his much-buzzed-about new album, due in stores on February 10, 2009. The platinum-selling singer-songwriter will be releasing the new title with complete control of direction and ownership of his masters on his solely owned and operated, Modern Whomp Records label. Most everyone in the Soul Patrol has heard of the Proud of our Troop Drives. CDs of Taylor Hicks music are gathered from kind and caring people who donate these and they are sent to the soldiers who are risking their lives. What you may not know is how they get to the soldiers. Soldier’s Angels takes care of getting these CDs to the troops.

Soldier’s Angels sends many care packages to the troops. You can donate at the site or adopt a soldier and send them letters and care packages to brighten their days. Right now Squidoo is going to give away up to $80,000 to charity by October 15, 2008. You can go vote for the charity of your choice and for each vote the charity gets $2. I was surfing around the internet and stumbled onto a site I had forgotten about. Radio IO. There are so many Taylor Hicks websites and sites with video and music to listen to and somewhere along the line I lost track of Radio IO and stopped listening.

Greg from Radio IO is a very nice man who does all he can to support Taylor and other artists. If you haven’t yet read his Welcome to the Soul Patrol you should head over and read it. Also give a listen to the great music that is played at IO Idols. Here is an excerpt from Greggs welcome that I think is very touching and goes a long way in showing the dedication of Taylor’s fans.

How many of you know how the Idols channel even came about? That's right; it's all because of Taylor Hicks. Because the Soul Patrol was so dedicated to their cause, Radio IO received sloughs of emails from you guys asking us to play, "Just To Feel That Way" when the single was released. So, we thought it would be a great idea to help support the Idols of the world with a channel that played only their material. What this channel does is help bring exposure to these artists whenever they have a release. Some, you are quite familiar with like Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Daughtry, but what about artists like Mandisa, RJ Helton or Jasmine Trias? And then there are the artists from similar competitions throughout the world like Leona Lewis, Will Young and Shannon Noll. Thanksgiving

I usually get into the holiday seasons earlier than needed. However I love the time of year from the Halloween Season until the Christmas Season is over. Today I started looking for new Thanksgiving Recipes so I get a start on some new dishes to make with dinner this year. I found a few named for Alabama such as Alabama Sweet Potato Pie. Maybe we will have an Alabama themed dinner this year in honor of Taylor. That I am only joking about, I am sure my husband would not eat dinner if that happened.

Taylor Starts The Christmas Season Off with Grease

A great start to the Christmas season will start soon for The Soul Patrol. Taylor Hicks is going to be on a national tour with the Grease show and it starts December 2nd in Providence, Rhode Island. I am planning to attend at least the Columbus Ohio show at Palace Theater which starts December 16th to the 21st and I hope to go again for the show in Cincinnati Ohio and the one in Maryland if my Aunt still wants to travel there to see her sister. My husband asked if I wanted some tire chains on my car so no snow, sleet or ice can stop me. Of course I knew better than to say yes. He would think I had lost my mind for sure. But umm maybe it’s a good idea.
To make Christmas even better for The Soul Patrol we could also use a New CD and some TV time. A Christmas song single or CD would be great to. Ok that is too much work to put on someone during the Christmas season everyone including Taylor Hicks deserves a break at Christmas to enjoy the season.

Pet Peeve - Nope Just Pissed Off

I think I am going to start posting my Pet Peeves now and again. Today my Pet Peeve is people who make up rumors just to have something to say. I got a email from a friend (that I haven’t heard from in at least 6 months) saying that I should know that she heard on the radio that Taylor spent the last few months in a drug treatment program and that is why he hadn’t been doing any concerts.

I did not email her back I called her. I asked what station she heard this on. She could not remember. So I said well when did you hear this she replied I don’t know for sure a few days ago. I then asked when he was supposed to have been there she said I’m not sure I think they said he was there for the last 4 months. I said well that is funny. She said why is it funny? I informed her it was funny because if he was in a treatment program then they must have let him out twice a day. She said no they don’t do that. I said well he has been doing Grease on Broadway for the last few months. She hung up and wouldn’t answer when I called back. Guess I caught her in her lie and she couldn’t think of what to say.

I will never understand people who have to make up lies and expect others to believe them.

Taylor Hicks 2006 American Idol Tour –

Taylor Hicks won American Idol Season Five in 2006. I got a Google alert today and USA Today reported that the 2006 tour led by Taylor Hicks brought in $35.2 million and seats were filled at 96.1% capacity. The seasons since have not been as successful. The 2008 American Idol tour, led by David Cook, was more successful than the 2007 tour but neither sold what the 2006 tour did. The 2008 tour pulled in $29.3 million, reports Billboard Boxscore, compared with 2007’s $20.9 million and the 2008 tour seast were filled at 85.4% average rate; in 2007, that figure was 68.4%.
American Idol has been trying to brainwash American viewers to forget about Taylor. Why else would the show not have Taylor in the opening credits and so many other instances in which Simon blatantly found ways to diss Taylor. Maybe now they will show some respect.
I am not saying Taylor is the only reason that the tour did so well. Season Five was filled with many talented people. I am a huge fan of Bucky Covington also and we also like Kellie Pickler. However there can be no denying that Taylor was a HUGE drawl for the tour. It is nice to finally see some reports acknowledging that fact.

Taylor Hicks in Grease Coming To Ohio

I got a alert today letting me know Taylor Hicks would be in Columbus Ohio December 16-21st. He will be on the road with the Grease tour. I wanted to go to New York and see Taylor as Teen Angel but the cost of such a trip was just not possible. Now I will get to see Taylor as Teen Angel. Grease has always been my favorite musical. I have never seen the play but I cannot wait to see it. Even if Taylor was not in it I would still love to see it, Taylor playing Teen Angel is an added plus for me.

I have seen a few people post about how Taylor shouldn’t do this because he won’t be able to release a new CD and tour it until later. It just drives me crazy how people say what he should or shouldn’t do with “HIS” career. Sure I want a new CD and to see Taylor in a concert but it will all come in Taylor’s time. He knows what is best for his career and he is the only one who has the right to decide when, where and what he will do. All we can do as fans is either support his choices or move on. We have no right to tell him how he should handle his career.

The internet is a good thing at times but at other times it can be very bad. Before electronics became so advanced and before the internet we listened to music and we bought CDS when they were in stores but we didn’t know the inner workings and we didn’t know everything going in some careers until an appearance was announced on TV or radio. Now that everything is so far advanced we get so much more information about the celebrities we like and maybe in a way it isn’t such a good thing because we can post what we think all over the met and that celebrity can read what is being said. I don’t know maybe it is just me but I would hate to go on the internet and see my every move monitored and to read that I am making wrong decisions or I change my mind too much or I don’t do what I say. My life and my career is my business and the choices I make are my own. I know how they will benefit me and no one has a right to tell me I am wrong and the same holds true with Taylor Hicks and all celebrities.

Car Wreck and Tays Harp

I am feeling crappy now don’t feel much like blogging but I wanted to share with you all how Taylor figured in the wreck well not the wreck. After the wreck. Car Wreck ... Scary!!!
Current mood: grateful
Yesterday I was going into town to pick up some groceries and I was heading down the hill right past my house. As I got the bottom I saw a car in other lane and right as I got to the driveway area they turned right in the path of my car. It was so close I knew there was no way my brakes were going to stop me in time. I tried to steer away in the the other direction to get away from them but there was just not enough space between us.
The next thing I knew I wa screaming because I knew we were going to crash. Sure enough we did. Thank God I tried to get my car in other lane or we would have hit directly head on. Instead my passenger side landed in the middle of her grill. It knocked me so hard I was flying forwards and sideways thank god my seat belt kept jerking me back in place. My rear view mirror came flying towards me hit me in the head I thought my windshield had came in on me. When My car finally stopped I was so shocked and scared it took a few to register what happened. I tried to get out of my door but my drivers door wouldn’t open so I crawled over to passenger door to get out as I opened the door the woman in the other vehicle was walking to me carrying her little girl about 2.
Than god the child was in a car seat and wasn't hurt. The woman’s air bag busted in her face she had blood pouring from her face. it scared me to death when i saw her. Thank god it just cut her face a little and knocked some teeth loose.
I didn’t go with the squad because I wanted to get the legal stuff done first and get my car home. As the day went on my chest and back started hurting real bad and my arm was numb. Thankfully it is just a badly bruised chest and back from seat belt and being thrown back and forth.
But this morning I woke up with swollen and numb face. i dont recall hitting anything with my face. If it still swollen tomorrow I am going back to doc.
It was the scariest thing I have experienced. I was so scared I was gonna die or have something go through my body. My car is totaled. Looking from outside u think on some new fender hood bumper and it be ok but the frame is twisted that is why driver door wont open even though i was hit in passenger side. My motor mounts are twisted. But I am just thankful no one was badly hurt or killed.
I was driving a Chevy Lumina Euro Sport Coupe. She was driving A ford escape. i think that what its called. Like a big jeep van thing or at least to my little car its huge.
Ok a couple silly little things about the accident well in a way and related to music. Bucky Covingtons CD was in my CD player. When the crash happened I heard it skipping like crazy. Then all the sudden when car stopped the switch wasnt off and the the cd took off playing again and the song was I'll Walk. That kinda of spooked me at the time cause my head hadn't registered completely yet if I was ok so I shut it off, but after I got out and thought about it, how appropriate for that song to play. Thank God I did walk. it could have been so much different. I think this song will have a much different meaning for me now.
Ok another my rear view mirror has lights on it so when it flew off it was dangling by the cords. A guy at the scene helping looked in saw my mirror hanging. And said boy it knocked that mirror right off without breaking windshield. then he said your little harmonica is just dangling there to. ( The little harp we were sent from Taylor Hicks fanclub was hanging from mirror) I said yea that is Taylor Hicks Harmonica.lol he laughed and said well it isnt a good luck charm. i said well yes it is. he said oh do you figure? I said well I aint dead he laughed and said ok I see your point. I took that harp off mirror and put in pocket just incase they towed my car off.
When my husband got there I remembered Bucky’s CD was in player I had him get it out. They may have towed my car but they weren’t getting Bucky’s CD or Tays harp lol Yea I'm silly about that stuff.
And one more so the cop has me sit in cruiser to fill out report. His cell starts to ring and the song was Sweet Home Alabama.
I just had to share those silly little things.
I'll say one thing when something like that happens it makes you realize just how quick something bad can happen. We never know how much we have on earth. I am just thankful God saw fit it wasnt my time. I got to come home and see my babies (well they are 13 and 17) but still I was able to see my babies get off the school bus.
I have to try and get over the fright. i love to drive I always have. Today i tried to go to town in my sons car to get my meds and I had to turn around and come back home. i was shaking like a leaf and scared to death. i made my self later go and get the meds and groceries but it took willpower and saying to myself I can do to be able to. But I still wasn’t trusting myself much. i sure watched driveways all the way there and cars on the other side of the road.

Turns out my face is swollen because of the dye used in the cat scan it is allergic reaction. Also turns out my lungs and heart are inflamed. They have me on steroids pain pills and inflammation meds 2 of them.
